hwk for 9/18/07

1)"they do not seem to me to be such; but if i am a Devil's child, i will live then from the Devil. no law can be sacred to me but that of my nature."
i think this means that you shouldent do something just because everyone thinks it right you do but you should do whats natural to you and what you believe is right.

2)Nothing is at last sacred but the integrity of your own mind.
i think this means that even if you lose everything you have it doesnt matter if you still have your thoughts and your own mind is still intact

3)If the stars should appear one night in a thousand years, how would men believe and adore; and preserve for many generations the remembrance of the city of god which had been shown.
i think this is trying to point out that just because that something is there all the time we take it for granted but if the same thing only appered every so often then we would be amazed by it and preserve it for generations

4)i am glad to the brink of fear. in the woods too, a man casts off his years, as the snake his slough, and at what period soever of life, is always a child. in the woods, is perpetual youth.
i think this is trying to say that the woods and being out in nature is good for the soul because it gets rid of the distractions of the city and breaks down life to the simpilest form and it is also trying to say that it makes the writer feel younger and replenished and it says that the youth could last forever.
